Rooted in Her
A Spring Equinox Circle for Mothers & Children
As the wheel of the year turns and the light returns, we gather.
Spring Equinox marks the moment of balance, when day and night meet as equals, and the Earth begins her slow unfurling. The roots that have been deepening in the quiet of winter begin to stir. Buds swell, and light stretches longer across the sky. Life begins to rise again.
This is the astrological New Year, as the Sun moves into Aries — the first spark of the zodiac — inviting courage, renewal, and new beginnings.
Rooted in Her is an intimate Spring Equinox gathering for mothers and their children to honor this sacred threshold together. Held gently within Springfield’s natural spaces and a cozy temple home, this experience is designed to nurture mothers while weaving deeper connection between mother, child, and Earth — the Great Mother who holds us all.
We will begin by meeting in nature. Together, we’ll form a small circle — grounding our bodies, breathing with the season, and arriving fully. Shela will share reflections on the Spring Equinox and the astrological New Year, offering space to feel into what this emerging season is asking of each of us. Mothers will be invited to set intentions for the months ahead, planting seeds not just for themselves, but for their families and the communities they are tending.
From there, we will walk gently through the land. You’ll be guided in how to forage and gather in right relationship — listening, asking permission, and honoring what the Earth offers. We will collect natural elements — twigs, cones, early blooms — to bring into our shared ceremony space.
Our journey will then continue at a private home in central Springfield, where we will co-create a Spring altar together. Inspired by earth-honoring traditions, Chloe will guide us. In this sacred ritual space of song, intention, and offering, we will build an altar with rice, beans, corn, flowers, and the treasures gathered from our walk — a living prayer woven by mothers and children side by side. Together, we will make a simple fire offering, releasing what winter has completed and welcoming what spring is ready to grow.
We will close in community with a nourishing potluck meal, celebrating the abundance that comes when women gather and each bring something to the table.
This gathering is intentionally intimate — limited to 6 mothers — to ensure every woman feels seen, supported, and well held. Children 13 and under are welcome to attend freely alongside their mothers. Their presence is not an afterthought — it is part of the prayer. We believe there is something powerful about children witnessing their mothers in ritual, in community, in connection to the sacred.
The energy of this circle is gentle, simple, heart-led. This is a soft beginning — the planting of a seed for deeper mother-centered village spaces to come. It is also the first opening invitation into a growing community of mothers and daughters gathering in rhythm with the moon and the seasons.
If you feel called to welcome the new year rooted in the Earth and surrounded by women walking a similar path, we would be honored to have you join us.

Ideally, this would be someone with a nurturing energy — someone who loves being with children and is attentive to their needs (think a mother’s helper). This role includes supporting during the ceremony and potluck, helping with simple tasks like preparing dishes or playing with the children, in exchange for participating in the experience. If this excites you, please email Shela at [email protected].
May we root deeply.
May we rise gently.
May we begin again — together.
